Utility Infrastructure Design and Coordination

We provide engineering services for electric, water, and gas utilities. CENTEK’s experience includes substations, pump stations, site development, and underground infrastructure. Our designs prioritize durability, permitting efficiency, and operational safety.

Central Power Plant Fuel Tank Replacement
New Haven, CT
Client: Yale University

This project involves civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering design for the removal and replacement of two 25,000-gallon underground fuel storage tanks (USTs) at Yale University’s Central Power Plant. CENTEK’s scope includes new tank installation within the existing concrete vault, updated fuel piping, leak detection systems, and electrical connections for monitoring and controls. The design ensures code compliance, operational safety, and minimal disruption to ongoing power plant operations while modernizing critical fuel infrastructure to support campus energy reliability.

Sterling Power Plant Improvements
New Haven, CT
Client: Yale University

This project involved civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering design for multiple infrastructure upgrades at Yale University’s Sterling Power Plant. Phase 1 included demolition of an existing 125-foot boiler exhaust stack. Phase 2 replaced two 30,000-gallon underground fuel tanks with three new 30,000-gallon tanks to expand storage capacity and improve system redundancy. Additional safety upgrades included the design of new steel platforms, rigging beams, and access ladders to improve maintenance accessibility for deaerator tanks, exhaust fans, and unit heaters within the cogen facility. The improvements enhance operational efficiency, safety, and long-term maintenance flexibility.
